Wingate's Reeves and Mars Hill's Poston Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Hannah Reeves was selected as the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player of the Week, while Mars Hill's Alyssa Poston was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week five of the 2023 season, the Conference office announced today.

Reeves, a senior from Reevesville, S.C., piled up eight hits including three homers in four SAC wins for the Bulldogs, driving in nine runs and scoring five times. She hit .667 while posting a .714 on-base percentage and 1.417 slugging percentage. Reeves started her week with a hit and a run scored in the 6-1 win over Newberry. She followed with a 3-3 effort in game two with a homer, four RBI and a run scored. Reeves homered in the opener at UVA Wise, while going 3-3 in game two with another homer and four more RBI, scoring two runs.

Poston, a freshman from Hartsville, S.C., threw two complete game wins and struck out nine batters this past week. She struck out five and allowed one run on five hits in the complete game victory over Belmont Abbey on Wednesday afternoon. She followed that performance by striking out four while allowing just four hits on Sunday versus Emory & Henry. Poston only gave up one run in 14 innings, equating to a very impressive .50 ERA.
