Carson-Newman Softball Wins Opening Round of SAC Championship; Remaining Games Delayed

WINGATE, N.C. – Carson-Newman defeated Newberry 11-5 in the opening round of the 2023 South Atlantic Softball Conference Championship today (April 27). 

Carson-Newman and Newberry were tied 5-5 at the end of the seventh inning but the Eagles took the lead after scoring six runs in the eighth. Macey Hughes, Macauley Bailey, and Abbi Martin all scored a pair of runs for the Eagles while Bailey also recorded six RBI. Eagles pitcher NicKolette Ferguson earned the win by throwing 1.1 innings of perfect relief. 

Due to inclement weather, game two featuring Anderson vs. Wingate was postponed to 10 a.m. Friday (April 28) and both games at Lenoir-Rhyne were moved to Friday beginning at 11 a.m.
