The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Softball Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Softball Players of the Week for games played during the second week of the 2024 season. Lenoir-Rhyne's Lora Beth Wood was named the Player of the Week while Wingate's Hali Scott was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Wood, a graduate student from Madison, N.C., went 9-for-16 with two home runs and seven RBI to lead the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears to a 3-1 week. On Wednesday, she hit two home runs and went 3-for-3 in the win against UNC Pembroke. Wood drew three walks with zero strikeouts to get on base at a .650 clip and six of her nine hits went for extra bases, including four doubles. She also added a 1.188 slugging percentage on the week.
Scott, a junior from Pilot Mountain, N.C., picked up three wings and a save on the week, helping No. 17 Wingate go 6-0 on the week with a 4-0 weekend in Florida. Scott started her week with six shutout frames at Mount Olive, striking out 10 while giving up just three hits. She tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout at Flagler, striking out eight and walking just one without allowing an extra base hit. She finished out the 10-inning Flagler win by getting the final two outs of the game, ending the 10-9 victory with a strikeout to notch the save. She then got the start against No. 18 Saint Leo, allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings while striking out six to earn her third win of the week.
