Wingate’s Tanetra Barrett Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -Wingate University guard Tanetra Barrett has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 3, it was announced today by the league office.
Barrett was named the MVP of the Ortho Carolina Classic as she helped the Bulldogs to a pair of wins last week.
Barrett, a native of Marshville, N.C., averaged 29 points in the
two Wingate wins. The former Forest Hills High School standout
scored 33 points in a 74-60 win over Claflin then tallied 25 points
in a 73-69 win over UNC-Pembroke. The 33 points marked a
career-high for Barrett, who hit on 9-of-13 shots and went 14-of-17
at the line.
The 5-6 senior added three rebounds and three steals in the win over Claflin. Against UNC-Pembroke, she hit on 7-of-16 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers, and was 9-of-11 at the line. Barrett chipped in with five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
