Wingate’s Tanetra Barrett Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University senior guard, Tanetra Barrett, has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 14, it was announced today by the league office.
Barrett, of Marshville, N.C., earns the honor for the second straight week and the third time on the season.
Barrett, a product of Forest Hills High School, helped the
19th-ranked Bulldogs to a split of two league games last week. She
led Wingate to a 75-69 win over Catawba on Monday, scoring 23
points and grabbing five rebounds. She hit seven-of-10 free throws
as the Bulldogs held off a late Catawba rally. In a 56-54 home
loss to 25th-ranked Carson-Newman, the senior had 18 points and
three assists.
For the week, Barrett averaged 20.5 points with seven rebounds and seven assists. She hit on 58 percent (14-of-24) of her field goal tries, including one-of-two from three point range. Barrett was 12-of-16 (75 percent) at the line and had a pair of steals.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the nine member schools.
