Carson-Newman’s Ashley Tipton Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman College's Ashley Tipton, of Knoxville, Tenn., has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 21, it was announced today by the league office.
Tipton, a sophomore guard, helped the Lady Eagles to a pair of wins last week to remain in a tie atop the SAC standings.
Tipton, a former standout at Farragut High School, helped
21st-ranked Carson-Newman to wins over Tusculum and Presbyterian.
Against Tusculum on Wednesday, the 5-10 guard scored 10 points
while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists in the
62-56 win. The sophomore tallied 21 points, hitting on five
three-pointers, in Saturday's 70-57 win over Presbyterian. Tipton
added five rebounds with a pair of assists.
For the week, Tipton averaged 15.5 points and six rebounds in the two wins. She connected on 57.1 percent (12-of-21) of her field goal attempts and made 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) of her three-point tries. She is averaging just over 12 points per game in her six league contests.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the nine member schools.
