Four Women’s Basketball Teams Ranked in Region
INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee has released this week's Division II women's basketball regional rankings, with four South Atlantic Conference teams ranked among the top 10 in the South Atlantic Region, the most of any of the conferences represented in the region.
Wingate is the number two team in the region, behind Clayton State out of the Peach Belt Conference. Carson-Newman is fourth, while Newberry is fifth. Catawba is ranked ninth in the region.
The Peach Belt has three teams in the poll, with Columbus State at number three and Georgia College & State University at eighth, joining Clayton State.
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association also has three institutions represented in the poll. Elizabeth City State is sixth, North Carolina Central is seventh and Fayetteville State is tenth.
Eight teams from the South Atlantic Region advance to the NCAA Tournament, including automatic qualifiers from each of the three conferences.
The regional rankings will be released every Wednesday through February 28.
