Wingate Wins Fourth Consecutive Women’s Basketball Conference Title

Wingate, N.C. -- Wingate University senior guard Tanetra Barrett (Marshville, N.C.) scored a career-high 40 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 90-76 South Atlantic Conference victory over Lenoir-Rhyne College Wednesday night in Cuddy Arena.

Wingate (21-5 overall, 13-2 SAC) captures its fourth straight SAC regular season title (shared or outright). Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 15-11 overall and 8-7 in SAC play.

Barrett tallied a career-high 40 points to lead all scorers, increasing her career point total to 1923. Bulldog senior forward Emily Paffrath (Bakersville, N.C.) scored 17 and pulled down four rebounds. Senior forward Lakin Byer (Bassett, Va.) added 19 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman guard Jami Safrit (Hickory, N.C.) led the Bear offense with a career-high 27 points on nine-of-12 shooting from the field. Sophomore center Denise Moore (Newport News, Va.) recorded 19 points, seven rebounds and seven blocked shots.
