Catawba’s NeKeithia Howard Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Catawba College's NeKeithia Howard has been named the South Atlantic Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Howard, a 5-10 senior forward from Macon, Ga., averaged 16.7 points and 10.3 rebounds in the Catawba Indians' three games last week. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the Comfort Suites Classic, which was hosted by Catawba.
The preseason first team all-SAC selection started her season
with a double-double in a 69-61 loss at No. 21 USC Aiken. She
scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, eight of
which were on the offensive end of the floor.
Howard netted 23 points and grabbed five boards in the Catawba Indians' 73-60 win over Molloy (N.Y.) in their tournament opener. She wrapped up the week with another double-double - 15 points and 10 rebounds - in a 67-51 over NCAA Division I North Carolina Central.
The senior receives the Player of the Week award for the first time in her career, and is the second consecutive first-time winner of the season.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
