Newberry’s Tonique Frasier Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry College's Tonique Frasier has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced today.
Frasier, a senior forward from Walterboro, S.C., broke the school record for career points in Friday's 68-50 win over Benedict College. She has scored 1,445 points in her career, eclipsing a record that has stood at Newberry for 24 years.
In the win over Benedict, Frasier recorded her second
double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds. She
also recorded two steals and two assists.
Frasier was a preseason first team all-SAC selection and has been named to the All-SAC Tournament team in each of the last two seasons. She was also named an ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in the spring of 2007.
Frasier wins the award for the second time this season and the third time in her career. She also earned Player of the Week honors once in 2006-07. She is the league's first repeat winner this season.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
