Newberry’s Tonique Frasier Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry College's Tonique Frasier has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced today.
Frasier, a senior forward from Walterboro, S.C., recorded three double-doubles in the four games over the holiday break and now has five double-doubles on the season.
The senior led the Lady Indians to their first conference win of the season against Carson-Newman with a 26-point, 12-rebound double-double.
She averaged 19.3 points and 10.5 board in the four-game span,
and netted double-digit points in each contest with a 64.6 shooting
percentage.
Frasier was a preseason first team all-SAC selection and has been named to the All-SAC Tournament team in each of the last two seasons. She was also named an ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in the spring of 2007.
Frasier wins the award for the third time this season and the fourth time in her career. She also earned Player of the Week honors once in 2006-07.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
