Carson-Newman’s Mandy Mendenhall Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman College's Mandy Mendenhall has been named the South Atlantic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week, for the week ending December 13, 2009. She wins the award for the second time this season.
Mendenhall, a junior guard from Kingston Springs, Tenn. (Harpeth Hall HS), posted 21 points, four rebounds, and three steals as the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles made the most of their only game of the week last week, defeating No. 8 Clayton State by a 65-62 score Saturday on the road. She went 7-for-13 from the field for a .538 field goal percentage and was 4-for-5 from the line including two key free throws down the stretch.
The junior helped spur two key runs by C-N in the victory, scoring seven of 17 points and five of eight points, respectively to put the Lady Eagles on top of last year's Southeast Region Champion.
Carson-Newman is now 9-0 on the season, its best start to a
season as a Division II institution. The Lady Eagles have won five
straight road games, including three against Peach Belt opponents
in which Mendenhall has averaged 20.7 points per game.
