Newberry’s Anita Bulcher Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry College's Anita Bulcher has been named the South Atlantic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week, for the week ending January 10, 2010. She wins the award for the second time this season.
Bulcher, a senior forward from Russia, Ohio (Russia HS), shined in her performances as she helped lead Newberry to victories over Mars Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne last week.
She posted a double-double in both games as she averaged 17 points and 16 rebounds in the pair. She dominated the post in the week's opener against Mars Hill, pulling down 20 rebounds and adding 15 points. It was her second game of 20 or more rebounds this season, with both coming in conference play. Bulcher then exploded for 17 second-half points against Lenoir-Rhyne to total 19 in the game, in addition to her 12 rebounds. She shot 12-25 (.480) from the field and 10-14 (.714) from the free-throw line while limiting herself to just four fouls over the week.
For the season, Bulcher is averaging 13.6 points and 12.3
rebounds per game. Her 12.3 rebounds per game rank highest in the
country in all of Division II.
