SAC Lands Four Teams in Initial NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional Rankings
Four teams from the SAC have been ranked in the season's first NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Southeast Region poll, which was released on Wednesday. The rankings are used by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee during the NCAA Championship selection process.
INDIANAPOLIS – Four teams from the SAC have been ranked in the season's first NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Southeast Region poll, which was released on Wednesday. The rankings are used by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee during the NCAA Championship selection process.
Anderson earned the highest rankings of any SAC team in the poll at No. 4. The Trojans currently lead the conference with an 11-3 record in league games, and are 17-7 overall.
AU is led by guard Alissa Diaz, the conference's second-leading scorer at 17.4 points per game.
Just behind Anderson in the regional rankings is Lenoir-Rhyne at No. 5. Led by the SAC's best scoring defense, L-R is currently 15-7 overall and 10-4 in the conference.
Newberry is ranked No. 9 in the poll, followed by No. 10 Catawba. Newberry is 17-7 overall, while Catawba is 13-9. Both teams are 9-5 in league play.
Newberry and Catawba both average 64.4 points per game, tied for the highest in the SAC.
The NCAA will continue releasing updated regional rankings each week until championship selections on March 10.
