ROCK HILL, S.C. – Women's basketball programs from across the SAC together generated $9,000 in support for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's Play 4Kay initiative, including a league-high $2,854.03 from Anderson.
The mission of the initiative, which began in 2007, is to develop a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Each SAC women's basketball program designated a game in February during which it encouraged fans to support the cause.
Anderson's Play 4Kay night took place on Feb. 16 against Lincoln Memorial. AU will be recognized for its efforts during next week's Food Lion SAC Basketball Championship in Greenville, S.C. Over the past five seasons, the conference has raised nearly $30,000 for the fund.
"We are honored to have been a part of the Play 4Kay initiative," said Anderson athletic director Nancy Simpson. "Many on our campus and within the AU family have been affected by breast cancer, and we are all truly committed to paying it forward and being a part of the movement to find a cure.
"We are truly appreciative that the South Atlantic Conference is so committed to this cause, and that we had such a successful event conference-wide."
