ATLANTA – Newberry College sophomore Haylee Lepaio has been named to the 2013 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Coaches' All-America Honorable Mention Team, the WBCA selection committee has announced.
Lepaio was recently named DAKTRONICS First Team All-Southeast Region after her strong sophomore season at Newberry. Lepaio's selection to the WBCA Division II Coaches' All-America Team Honorable Mentions is the first national honor for the Australian.
The only player from the South Atlantic Conference to garner recognition from the WBCA, Lepaio was a SAC First Team honoree after averaging 18.1 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per game. On her way to being named SAC Player of the Week three times in the 2012-13 season, Lepaio recorded double-digit points in 25 games and posted ten double-doubles.
Lepaio ranks No. 7 in both points and blocked shots in a season at Newberry after her sophomore year of play inside of Eleazer Arena.
In being named to the WBCA All-America Honorable Mentions, Lepaio becomes the first player to earn such an honor since Anita Bulcher garnered the same recognition at the conclusion of the 2009-10 season.
