ROCK HILL, S.C. – Each of the SAC's 12 women's basketball programs will join together over the next week in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's fight against breast cancer by hosting a game aimed at raising support for the group's Play 4Kay initiative.
The Play 4Kay games will take place between Feb. 8 and Feb. 15. Fans are encouraged to attend the games, wear pink and make a donation. The mission of the initiative, which began in 2007, is to develop a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campus, in communities and beyond.
To date, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has raised $8 million to support the fight against cancer, and $2 million through the Play 4Kay initiative. SAC schools combined to raise $9,000 for Play 4Kay in 2013, and the school that generates the most support this year will be recognized at the 2014 Food Lion SAC Basketball Championship.
Play 4Kay is named after legendary coach Kay Yow, who fought a courageous and very public battle against breast cancer to build a platform dedicated to improving and extending the lives of cancer patients. After three recurrences of the disease, Coach Yow passed away on Jan. 24, 2009.
