The South Atlantic Conference Announces Seeds for the 2017 SAC Women's Basketball Championship (WATCH)
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lincoln Memorial, ranked No. 9 in the nation, won its first-ever South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title as it captured the 2016-17 Championship. With the crown, the Railsplitters have earned the No. 1 seed in next week's South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon. Lincoln Memorial finished the season with a 19-3 League record.
Anderson and Wingate tied for second with identical 18-4 League records. However, Anderson went 2-0 vs. the Bulldogs during the regular season to earn the No. 2 seed and give Wingate the No. 3 position. Carson-Newman's 16-6 SAC record was good for the No. 4 seed and at No. 5 was Newberry who finished the 2016-17 season SAC season with a 14-8 mark. Lenoir-Rhyne landed at No. 6 in the bracket as it went 13-9 on the SAC season, ahead of Catawba who came in at No. 7 with a 12-10 record in SAC play. Queens finished the SAC season at 5-17 to tie with Tusculum, Coker and Mars Hill. The Royals earned their first-ever tournament berth as they went 4-2 vs. Tusculum, Coker and Mars Hill to earn the No. 8 seed.
The 2017 South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Wednesday, March 1 before moving to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on March 4 and 5. The South Atlantic Conference's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament. The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
