Anderson, S.C. — The fifth-seeded Anderson University women's basketball team held the fourth-seeded Highland Cavaliers to its lowest scoring output of the season, 65-49, to advance to the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Flying J Championship on Monday evening at the Prior Center. The Trojans improve to 14-10 overall, while UVA Wise finish the season 15-5 overall.
Lady Railsplitters Record First-Ever 8-Over-1 Upset Against Carson-Newman
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - In the quarterfinals of the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Pilot Flying J Women's Basketball Championship, the eighth-seeded Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball team (10-10) pulled off the biggest upset in the history of SAC postseason play with a 78-72 win over Carson-Newman inside Holt Fieldhouse Monday evening. With the win, LMU becomes the first eighth seed to defeat a top seed since the South Atlantic Conference began playing a women's basketball conference tournament after the 1990-91 season. The Lady Railsplitters will travel to fifth-seeded Anderson Monday evening for their semifinal contest.
Late foul shooting propels Pioneers past Newberry, 59-43, in SAC quarterfinals
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Jalia Arnwine scored 22 points and Maddie Sutton recorded her 13th straight double-double with 20 points and 18 rebounds as Tusculum University held Newberry College to one field goal over the final five minutes for a 59-43 victory in the quarterfinals of the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship Monday night at Pioneer Arena.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MARCHES TO SAC SEMIS WITH 81-60 WIN OVER LIMESTONE
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba held Limestone to six first-quarter points, raced to a 30-10 edge and rolled to a 81-60 win over the visiting Saints in a quarterfinal of the 2021 Pilot Flying J South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Monday night at Goodman Gym. Catawba, seeded-third improves to 10-2 and will face second-seeded Tusculum in a Thursday night semifinal at Tusculum at 5:30 p.m. Limestone ends its season at 8-8.
