Tusculum Finishes Sixth, Newberry Seventh at NCAA Women’s Golf Regional
The 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Southeast Region Championship came to a close on Tuesday, with Tusculum finishing sixth and Newberry tied for seventh.
PACE, Fla. - The 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Southeast Region Championship came to a close on Tuesday, with Tusculum finishing sixth and Newberry tied for seventh.
Tusculum shot a final-round 304 to finish with a three-day total of 928, while Newberry finished one stroke back at 929 after a team score of 303 on Tuesday.
Both teams' final-round scores were their lowest of the Championship.
Tusculum was led at the three-day event by Emee Herbert, who finished with the Championship's ninth-best score of eight-over 224. Herbert shot even par on Tuesday, her best round of the week.
TC's Jillian Corum also played well on Tuesday, carding a one-over 73 to finish the tournament with a total score of 13-over 229.
Newberry, meanwhile, was paced by Maria Luz Besio, who finished 10th on the individual leaderboard at nine-over 224 for the Championship after shooting a 73 on Tuesday.
Besio also fired a 73 in Sunday's opening round as well.
Newberry's next-best finisher was Barbara Castro, who closed the tournament with a final score of 229, which tied for 14th on the individual leaderboard.
Carson-Newman's Erica Ray, who qualified as an individual for the Regional, finished the event with a score of 241. Her best performance came in Monday's second round, where she shot a two-over 74.
Florida Southern led wire-to-wire to win the Championship.
