The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week, Feb. 29
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Catawba's Megan Shortt was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne's Ines Flueck was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for games played Feb. 22-28, the League announced today.
Shortt, a sophomore from Kernersville, N.C., scored eight goals and handed out five assists to lead the Catawba Indians to a pair of wins last week. The attacker got her week going with four scores and one assist in a 12-11 overtime win against Belmont Abbey on Feb. 25. With 1.4 seconds left against the Crusaders, Shortt connected on a free position score and send the game into overtime. Three days later at Chowan, Shortt accounted for four tallies and assisted on four other scores to lead the Catawba Indians to a 20-3 win. Shortt also collected two ground balls to go along with six draw controls and one caused turnover in the two-game span. The honor is her first Offensive Player of the Week selection this season.
Flueck, a sophomore from Coppell, Texas, posted 20 saves in a pair of Lenoir-Rhyne wins last week. Against Pfeiffer on Feb. 23, she turned away 12 Falcon shots to finish with a save percentage of 60 percent. She followed that effort with eight saves and a 57.1 save percentage in a win over Saint Leo on Feb. 27. She posted a 58.8 save percentage in the two games. The award is her first Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
