The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week, April 11
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens' Kelly Dowd was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Arion Pierre of Wingate was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for games played April 4-10, the League announced today.
Dowd, a junior from Stony Point, N.Y., scored nine goals and handed out two assists to lead the Royals to a 3-0 record last week. The midfielder got her week started with two goals, one assist, four draw controls and three ground balls as Queens picked up a 16-5 win at Pfeiffer on April 4. Two days later against Belmont Abbey, Dowd marked four tallies, one assist, four ground balls and a draw control in a 16-5 win. She closed her week out with three scores, two draw controls and two ground balls to lead her squad to a 17-7 win over SAC foe Lenior-Rhyne. Dowd scored on 60 percent of her shots and put 73 percent of her shots on frame in the three-game span. The award is her first Offensive Player of the Week selection this season.
Pierre, a freshman from Haymarket, Va., posted 11 saves in a 21-10 win over Newberry on April 9. She saved 52 percent of the shots she faced to help the Bulldogs move to 4-2 in South Atlantic Conference play. The honor is her third Defensive Player of the Week nod this season.
