Wingate Sweeps South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Varsity Gems Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played in the second week of the 2023 season. Wingate's Paige Kamer was named the offensive player of the week while teammate Katie Koroly was named the defensive player of the week.  

Kamer, a graduate student attacker from Yorba Linda, Calif., kicked off the 2023 season with two massive games, piling up 16 points while becoming Wingate's all-time leader in assists in the process. Kamer started her season with three goals and four assists in the victory over Belmont Abbey, adding a ground ball and a caused turnover. She piled up nine points in the win at Young Harris on Sunday, a team that defeated a pair of SAC teams earlier in the week. Kamer had three goals and six assists on the day to go along with two ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover. 

Koroly, a freshman defender from Malvern, Pa., had an immediate impact on the Wingate defense as the #13 Bulldogs allowed just 10 goals through their first 120 minutes of the season. Koroly led Wingate with six caused turnovers and seven ground balls, adding a draw control. She had 2 CTs and five ground balls in the season-opening win over Belmont Abbey, as Wingate held the Crusaders to just three goals, while holding them scoreless to a 56-minute stretch until the final minute of the game. She also had an assist in the contest. Koroly piled up four caused turnovers in Sunday's win over Young Harris, adding a pair of ground balls.
