Wingate's Kamer and Knowles Earn South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Varsity Gems Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played in the seventh week of the 2023 season. Wingate swept the awards as Paige Kamer was named the offensive player of the week and teammate Leah Knowles was named the defensive player of the week.  

Kamer, a graduate student from Yorba Linda, Calif., piled up 12 points in the two victories for the No. 12 Bulldogs. She started her week with a goal and a Wingate-record eight assists in the victory at Catawba. Kamer followed by notching a goal and two more assists in the win at Lincoln Memorial. She also had a pair of caused turnovers and three ground balls on the week.

Knowles, a senior from Hickory, N.C., piled up seven caused turnovers and 18 draw controls on the week to go along with four ground balls, eight goals, and an assist. Knowles had five caused turnovers in the win at Catawba, helping the Bulldogs to hold the Indians to just four goals. She also collected 12 draw controls and three ground balls to go along with her two goals. Knowles became Wingate's all-time leader in draw controls during the contest. She caused two more turnovers at Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, adding a ground ball and six draw controls while compiling six goals and an assist.
