Wingate's Kamer and Knowles Earn South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Varsity Gems Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played in the ninth week of the 2023 season. Wingate swept the awards as Paige Kamer was named the offensive player of the week and Leah Knowles was named the defensive player of the week.
Kamer, a graduate student from Yorba Linda, Calif., piled up 16 points last week, leading No. 10 Wingate to a pair of dominant SAC victories. The graduate student went over 100 career assists in the win at Lenoir-Rhyne, registering two goals and six assists. Kamer had eight more points Saturday, notching three goals and five assists in the 20-1 victory over UVA Wise. Kamer is now the league leader in points and assists.
Knowles, a senior from Hickory, N.C., led No. 10 Wingate to a pair of SAC wins this week. Knowles started her week by piling up six caused turnovers, three ground balls, and seven draw controls in the win at Lenoir-Rhyne, going over 200 career points with her goal and three assists. She caused three more turnovers in the 20-1 win over UVA Wise while notching 10 more draw controls to go along with three goals and four assists.
