Winate’s Madi Welch named Women’s Soccer Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate's Madi Welch has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the second time in the 2006 season.
Welch, a Monroe, NC native, scored two match-winning goals in two Wingate wins. She scored twice in a 3-2 overtime home win against Peach Belt Conference member USC Aiken and scored on an unassisted header in the 51st minute for the only goal in a 1-0 SAC win at Newberry. Welch leads Wingate with 18 points (seven goals and four assists). She has also tallied a team-best four match-winning goals, as the Bulldogs hold an 8-2 overall record (2-0 SAC) this season.
Wingate will host a non-conference match against Mount Olive on
Wednesday, September 27 before returning to SAC play on Saturday,
September 30 for a 7:00 p.m. match against Catawba.
The SAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
