Wingate’s Madi Welch named SAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University freshman forward Madi Welch (Monroe, N.C./Sun Valley HS) has been named the South Atlantic Conference's women's soccer Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2006 season.
Welch led the Bulldogs to two victories last week. She scored
two goals to key Wingate's 2-1 victory over 19th ranked Clayton
State on Saturday, August 26. In the season opener versus Coker,
Welch assisted on the third of Wingate's five goals for a 5-0
shutout win in her first collegiate game.
The Bulldogs play three matches this week. Wingate hosts Queens University of Charlotte Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs travel to West Virginia for two games this weekend. They'll face West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, September 1 and Salem International on Sunday, September 3.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors of the league.
