Pairings Announced For Food Lion SAC Women’s Soccer Tournament
ROCK HILL, SC - The Lincoln Memorial University women's soccer team, in its first year of eligibility for South Atlantic Conference men's soccer awards and championships, has earned the top seed for the 2007 Food Lion SAC Women's Soccer Tournament, the conference office announced Sunday.
Lincoln Memorial claimed the regular-season championship with its 3-2 win over Wingate on Sunday. The Lady Railsplitters (12-4 overall, 5-2 SAC) will face eighth-seed Wingate University (5-10-1, 1-6 SAC) on Wednesday in a rematch of Sunday's contest at 3 p.m.
Catawba College and Newberry College tied for second place in the conference standings with 4-2-1 conference records. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie during the regular season. Newberry (8-5-5, 4-2-1) earned the second seed in a conference tiebreaker. Newberry defeated No. 1 seed LMU 1-0 in overtime in the regular season, while LMU defeated Catawba 6-2.
Newberry will face seventh-seed Lenoir-Rhyne (7-9-2, 2-5 SAC) in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday.
Catawba will face sixth-seed Mars Hill College (8-10, 3-4 SAC) in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday.
Carson-Newman College and Tusculum College finished tied for fourth place with 4-3 conference records.
Carson-Newman, the defending conference champion and tournament champion, earned the fourth seed and home-field advantage for Wednesday's quarterfinals by virtue of its 1-0 regular-season win over Tusculum.
Quarterfinal winners advance to the tournament semifinals, which will be held at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex in Rock Hill, S.C. on Friday, November 2. The two women's semifinals will be played at 6 p.m.
The women's tournament finals will be Sunday, November 4 at 1 p.m. at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex.
Admission to all Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament events is $5 for adults and $2 for college students and children.
