The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during Oct. 9 through Oct. 15. Carson-Newman's Magda Mosengo garnered the Offensive Player of the Week award, while Catawba's Shelby Thompson was named Defensive Player of the Week.
A senior forward, Mosengo scored both goals at Queens on just three shots in the 2-0 win over the Royals. The London, England native leads the conference in overall goals (13), points (30), and game-winning goals (4). This is Mosengo's second Offensive Player of the Week honor in 2018.
Thompson, a native of Charlotte, N.C., did not allow a goal over the course of the Catawba Indians' two matches of the week. In the 1-0 overtime defeat of Mars Hill, the senior goalkeeper collected a pair of saves, while in the 5-0 win over Coker, Thompson shared the shutout and grabbed three saves in 59 minutes of action.
