Nine SAC Student-Athletes Named to D2CCA All-Southeast Region Women's Soccer Team
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Nine South Atlantic Conference student-athletes have been named to the 2018 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Southeast Region Women's Soccer Team. Lincoln Memorial led the SAC with three student-athletes among the selections.
The Railsplitter's Jessica Cravero, SAC Freshman of the Year, earned first team accolades, while teammates Alyssa Berry and Itzel Ballesteros collected second team laurels. Cravero, the lone freshman to be honored, has been a force on offense, racking up 19 goals and four assists, while leading Lincoln Memorial to the Southeast Regional Championship game on Friday (Nov. 16). Berry has helped the defense stand strong with 10 shutouts thus far. Ballesteros has been prolific on the attack with a near even distribution of goals (12) and assists (11).
Two Carson-Newman defenders earned regional attention: Averi Williams and Alex Brandan. On the first team, Williams, SAC Defensive Player of the Year, aided in the Eagles' eight shutouts, while tallying two goals and an assist. On the second team, Brandan also contributed to the Carson-Newman shutouts, adding a goal and three assists.
For the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears, Aqsa Mushtaq and Abbie Brown found their way to the second team. Mushtaq scored five goals, along with four assists, total 14 points on the year. Brown led the team with 16 goals, including six game-winners, while adding six assists for 38 points.
Queens landed Charlotte Ring on the first team for their lone honoree. Ring led the Royals offensively with 17 points on seven goals (two game-winning) and three assists.
Jovanna Sanchez headed up Catawba's offense with six goals, half of them being game-winners, and seven assists for 19 points.
