Carson-Newman Puts Three on United Soccer Coaches Division II Women's Soccer All-America Teams
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – United Soccer Coaches announced its women's soccer All-America on Wednesday (Nov. 28). Carson-Newman represented the SAC with three honorees, the most in program history in a single season.
The Eagles have had at least one All-America selection in four-straight season as the trio become the 15th, 16th, and 17th players to collect the recognition.
On the first-team for the Eagles is senior defender Averi Williams. The Powell, Tenn. native is just the third Carson-Newman first-teamer in program history and second-ever defender to earn the honor. Williams has collected multiple honors in 2018: D2CCA All-Region, first-team All-Conference, and SAC Defensive Player of the Year.
The third-team features two Eagles: Jackie Burns and Magda Mosengo.
As a junior goalkeeper, Burns helped lead Carson-Newman to an 11-1 season with 5.1 shutouts. This sits her second all-time in the SAC with 30.4 career shutouts. The Cookstown, Northern Ireland native posted a goals-against average of 0.86, a league-best. Burns leads the Eagles with four single-season statistical categories and seven career marks.
Mosengo, a senior forward, maintained a place inside the nation's top-10 in goals and points throughout the season. The London, England product tallied 20 goals and seven assists for 47 points, eighth-most in program history. She finished 2018 eighth nationally in points and goals. Mosengo earned SAC Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-Conference nod.
