Catawba Wins 2021 South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Championship
MATTHEWS, N.C. (theSAC.com) – Catawba's Helen Summerell scored a goal in the 25th minute of play, which proved to be all the offensive firepower needed for the Catawba Indians to defeat the Queens Royals 1-0, and take-home SAC Women's Soccer Tournament Championship on Sunday (Nov. 14) afternoon.
Despite a hard-fought battle, the Royals came up short after four shots and one shot on goal. The SAC Regular Season Champions earn an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship with the win today. The NCAA Selection show for Division II Women's soccer will be held tomorrow starting at 6 P.M.
It was a slow defensive game for the goalkeepers as the defenders on both teams managed to keep the ball out of the box. Catawba's goalie Jamie Kazenmayer only registered one save while Queens' goalkeeper Erica Turner, tallied two.
Summerell was named the tournament's most valuable player and along with the accolade was an 11-member All-Tournament Team.
