SAC WePlayed Sports Women's Soccer Players of the Week Announced
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during week one of the 2024 season. Coker's Kira Boelke was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Catawba's Kelly Havens brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Boelke, a freshman from Magdeburg, Germany, had an impressive debut for the Cobras as she helped Coker to a 2-0 week. She had a goal in a season opening win over Emmanuel which was the game winner and followed that up with two goals and two assists in a win over Bluefield St. The freshman totaled eight points on three goals and two assists. The eight points are the most by any player in the league on the opening weekend.
Havens, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, netted a set-piece goal in both of Catawba's wins on opening weekend to start the season 2-0 for the seventh straight season. She followed up her own saved shot for the opening score in 13th-ranked Catawba's come-from-behind win over #15 Embry-Riddle on Friday night and added a header to add late insurance in Catawba's 3-1 win over Georgia College on Sunday.
