Catawba Claims Fifth SAC Women's Soccer Title; Seeds and Matchups Announced for SAC Tournament
ROCK HILL, S.C. (theSAC.com) – It came down to the regular season finale and the Catawba Indians were crowned SAC Regular Season Champions for the fifth time in history after a scoreless draw against Lenoir-Rhyne this evening. Catawba entered the evening with a 1-point advantage over LR in the standings and clinched the crown with tonight's result. The Indians last won the regular season title in 2021.
Catawba went 7-0-3 in the regular season and finished the year with 24 points. They will host the No. 8 seed in the Quarterfinals on Saturday.
The Bears earn the No. 2 seed in the SAC Tournament and look to capture their third straight SAC Tournament Championship. They finish the regular season with a 7-1-2 mark in SAC play and 23 points.
The Anderson Trojans are the third seed. They secured that spot with a 3-1 victory over Newberry on the road and went 6-3-1 on the season to capture 19 points to earn a home Quarterfinal contest.
Coker grabbed the fourth seed with a 1-0 win over Wingate. The win was crucial for the Cobras who locked up the final home game in the Quarterfinal round. The win, coupled with a loss by Tusculum, vaulted Coker to fourth place with 18 points and a 5-2-3 league record.
The Pioneers will enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed. Tusculum fell to Carson-Newman in the regular season finale but finished with 16 points and a 5-4-1 record in the conference. The 16 points are the most by the Pioneers since they recorded 18 in 2018.
The six-seed goes to the Carson-Newman Eagles who upended Tusculum to close out the regular season. Carson-Newman and Wingate each finished with 15 points in the league but Carson-Newman earns the sixth seed thanks to a 1-0 win over Wingate on Oct. 25.
Wingate is the seventh seed after a campaign that saw them go 5-5 in the conference and they will travel to rival Lenoir-Rhyne for a Quarterfinal matchup.
The final seed goes to Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters defeated Emory & Henry 3-2 to claim the eighth seed. LMU went 3-4-3 in the SAC with 12 points.
All tournament games will be broadcast on FloSports. The Quarterfinals will be on campus sites at the higher seed with the Semifinal and Championship taking place at the Sportsplex at Matthews in Matthews, N.C. The semis will be played Friday, November 14 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and the championship will be on Sunday, November 16 at 1 p.m.
