Carson-Newman's Peden Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Swimmer of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Rachel Peden was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Swimmer of the Week for meets competed in during the eighth week of the 2022-23 season, the Conference office announced today.
Peden, a senior from Boiling Springs, S.C., was the top finisher in the 1000-yard freestyle, winning gold with a time of 10:59.31 as the Eagles defeated Emory & Henry with a combined team score of 327-74 on Saturday (Dec. 10). She touched the wall 14 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and was the only swimmer who was sub-11 minutes in the event. Peden was one of 10 women who picked up first-place finishes, as Carson-Newman placed first in every event of the meet in both men's and women's events.
