Program Records and All-American Swims Highlight Night One of 2023 NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships
Indianapolis, Ind.---- Multiple South Atlantic Conference team records were broken during night one of the 2023 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium at IUPUI. Wingate highlighted the night with their record-breaking men's 800 Freestyle Relay. The team of Marcel Snitko, Slava Ohnov, Gabriel de Costa, and Miguel Marcos touched the wall at 6:24.57, crushing the previous school record of 6:28.21 while earning a fourth-place finish and First-Team All-American honors.
A second team record was broken in the same event as Snitko led off the relay, splitting a 1:34.83 to break the 11-year-old school record set at the 2012 NCAA Swimming Championships by Iaroslav Denysenko (1:35.63).
Carson-Newman men also set a new program record in the 800 Free Relay. Wander Sousa, Matt George, Arthur Gluzman, and Hobson Stelling finished 10th with a time of 6:32.66, breaking the previous record of 6:33.79 set at the 2022 NCAA Swimming Championships and earning Honorable Mention All-American honors.
Two South Atlantic Conference schools competed in the women's 800 Freestyle Relay. Wingate's team of Lucinda Andrews, Nina Azirovic, Amanda Wenhold, and Kaitlyn Agger finished sixth in the event, touching the wall at 7:19.71 to earn first team All-American honors. Carson-Newman's Kennadi King, Natalia Amano, Lily Parr, and Rachel Peden followed, finishing 16th with a time of 7:33.69 to earn Honorable Mention All-American honors.
