Wingate's Wenhold & Chagas Filho, Carson-Newman's Blakemore Lead Day Four of 2023 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships
Blakemore takes on All-American title in day three of national championships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Kyla Blakemore adds to the Eagles' All-American success in the third day of the 2023 NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships.
Kyla Blakemore placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke prelims in 54.65 to set a new personal record in the event. Her time allowed her to compete in the championship heat of the finals where she secured the title of All-American with a 54.40 finals time and fourth-place finish.
Asger Hartvig competed in the men's 100-yard breaststroke and placed 16th in 54.41 seconds. Hartvig's time allowed him to race in the consolation heat for the finals where he finished eleventh in nation with a time of 53.77. His efforts also set a new school record. Andrei Roman held the record since 2017 at 54.74 before Hartvig's swim earlier today.
Rachel Peden finished 28th in the women's 500-yard freestyle relay preliminary event in 5:00.37.
Carson-Newman women's swim competed in the second heat of the 200-yard freestyle relay this evening. Kennadi King, Natalia Amano, Lily Parr, and Manon Compagner finished ninth in the nation with a 1:33.04 finals time.
Wenhold, 200 Freestyle Relay team highlight busy evening at NCAA meet
Indianapolis, Ind.----Wingate University junior Amanda Wenhold collected two first team All-American trophies in the 2023 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships inside the Indiana University Natatorium at IUPUI Friday night. She finished fifth in the 100 Breaststroke and helped the Bulldogs take third-place in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
Wenhold posted a 100 Breaststroke championship finals time of 1:02.29. In the Friday-concluding 200 Free Relay, she joined sophomores Kelsea Munro and Lucie Andrews and freshman Natalia Dwojak to record a lightning-fast time of 1:32.28. Friday night's 200 Free Relay time moves the quartet to No. 2 on Wingate's lifetime list.
Ney Chagas Filho, Gabriel da Costa, WU butterfliers collect team points at NCAAs
Indianapolis, Ind.----Wingate University freshman Ney Chagas Filho made another podium visit Friday, finishing eighth in the men's 100 Backstroke in the Indiana University Natatorium at IUPUI. Chagas Filho posted a first team All-American time of 48.35, earning his first individual NCAA statuette.
Earlier in the meet, Chagas Filho broke Academic All-America standout Niklas Martin's 100 Backstroke school record not once, but twice. He swam 47.78 in Thursday night's 400 Medley Relay and 47.72 in the Friday AM prelims.
