Lenoir-Rhyne's Boernigen and Carson-Newman's Peden Named CSC Third Team Academic All-American
AUSTIN, Texas - Two South Atlantic Conference swimmers were named to the 2022-23 Women's Swimming & Diving Academic All-America Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators. This is the first year that swimming has its own award category, as it previously fell under the "At Large" category.
Ten of the 34 members of the Academic All-America® Division II women's swimming & diving teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 10 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.93.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Lisa Boernigen and Carson-Newman's Rachel Peden were named to the Third Team for their standout efforts in the pool and the classroom.
Boernigen, a senior from Munchen, Germany, holds a 3.78 grade point average while studying International Business and Management. She has qualified for the NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships four times and earned All-SAC honors at the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Championships. Boernigen holds multiple team records including the 100 and 200 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly, and 100, 200, and 400 IM.
Peden, a senior from Boiling Springs, S.C., holds a 3.94 grade point average while studying Psychology. She is a two-time All-American and a three-time school record holder in the 1650 Freestyle, 1000 Freestyle, and 500 Freestyle. Peden was named the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Champion in the 400 IM, earning All-SAC honors. She recently earned Honorable Mention All-American honors at the 2023 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division II Academic All-America® program.
