Lincoln Memorial To Play Georgia College & State In NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Lincoln Memorial University women's tennis team will open NCAA Regional play against 30th-ranked Georgia College & State University on May 6 in Morrow, Georgia.
The NCAA announced the brackets for the 2010 Division II Women's Tennis Tournament late Wednesday.
The Lady Railsplitters, who earned the automatic bid to the tournament by winning the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, will play in the sub-bracket of the NCAA Southeast Region hosted by Clayton State University. Armstrong Atlantic State University hosts the other sub-bracket.
LMU was the only SAC team chosen for the ten-team bracket.
The Lady Railsplitters (18-3) will face GCSU (11-11) in the opening round. The Bobcats finished the season ranked seventh in the Peach Belt Conference. They are currently ranked 30th in the nation.
The LMU/GCSU winner will play No. 12 Clayton State (16-7) in the second round.
This will be LMU's first appearance in the NCAA Southeast Regional since the school moved to the South Atlantic Conference in the fall of 2006 and their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since the 2006 season.
The 16 preliminary-round tournaments will be conducted May 6-7, 7-8 or 6-8 with the winner of each preliminary-round tournament advancing to the finals in Altamonte Springs, Florida, hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission and Rollins College, May 12-15.
