Anderson’s Julie Halbert Named Women’s Tennis Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Anderson University's Julie Halbert has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending February 22, announced conference officials Wednesday.
Halbert, a senior from Cesson Sevigne, France, helped lead the Anderson women's team to a perfect 3-0 record last week as the Trojans earned convincing wins past Division I opponent USC Upstate (6-1), conference-member Catawba (7-2) and Peach Belt opponent USC Aiken (5-1). Anderson improved to 4-1 overall on the season, including 2-0 in the SAC.
Halbert boasted a perfect slate on the week, garnering three singles wins from her No. 3 position in addition to a pair of victories on the doubles side. She did not drop a set and improved her singles record to 4-1 on the season.
She defeated Upstate's Catherine Estupian, 6-1, 6-0, then topped
Catawba's Maggie McKee, 6-0, 6-3, and teamed with Marcela Gallegos
to knock off McKee and Hannah Kovach, 8-3. Halbert closed the week
by picking up a singles win over Aiken's Andrea Cediel, 6-0, 6-2
and again teamed with Gallegos for an 8-5 win in doubles.
