The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2015 Women's Tennis Preseason Poll & All-Conference
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate has been chosen first in the South Atlantic Conference's women's tennis annual preseason poll, as voted by the League's head coaches, it was announced today by the League office. The Bulldogs picked up seven first-place votes from the panel and 124 points.
Tusculum came in at the No. 2 spot with a pair of top-votes and 114 points, while Queens finished third in the voting with one top-bid and 108 points. At No. 4 was Newberry, who notched two first-place votes and 102 points. Anderson finished up the top-five with 97 points. Lincoln Memorial collected 87 points to place sixth in the poll, ahead of Mars Hill, who garnered 70 points. Catawba's 62 points was good for No. 8 in the poll. Carson-Newman picked up 50 points to place No. 9, while Coker notched 40 points to come in at No. 10. Lenoir-Rhyne (37 points) and Brevard (33 points) rounded out the poll.
Elena Vasilyeva of Lincoln Memorial, Brevard's Katie Daugherty and Zorica Djuric from Lenoir-Rhyne highlight the preseason All-SAC team as returning first-team selections from a year ago. Caroline Holland from Wingate, Queens' Melissa Laing and Rebecca Bruning from Anderson rounded out the list of first-team preseason all-conference selections.
Queens University posted a pair of doubles teams on the first team in the tandems of Carlotta Nassi and Laing and Jaclyn Rock and Clair Hamilton. The doubles pair of Gemma Goodland and Vasilyeva from Lincoln Memorial finish up the first-team doubles selections.
The South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis season gets underway on Feb. 1. The 2015 South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Championship is slated for April 16-18 on the campus of Brevard College.
