Wingate's Verpelli Named South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Women's Tennis Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Michela Verpelli has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played February 25 through March 3, the Conference announced today.

Verpelli, a junior from Milan, Italy, led the No. 19 Bulldogs to a 3-0 record last week, including a pair of conference wins and a 4-3 victory over No. 6 Columbus State. She went undefeated at No. 1 singles and was undefeated at No. 1 doubles. In the win over Columbus State, Verpelli defeated the No. 25 singles player in the nation, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and along with doubles partner Alisa Rudenko defeated the No. 2 doubles team 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.  

This is Verpelli's first Player of the Week selection this season.
