Wingate's Lopez Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Tennis Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Alex Lopez has been named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played during week nine of the 2023 season, the Conference announced today.

Lopez, a senior from Spain, went undefeated on the week for the Bulldogs, picking up two singles wins, and two doubles wins. Lopez helped Wingate secure a huge 4-3 Conference victory versus #12 ranked Newberry, winning 6-2, 7-6 at No. 5 singles and teaming up with doubles partner Elena Gunfaus for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. In her match against Francis Marion, Lopez picked up a hard-fought 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles and captured a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Lopez's strong victories have helped lead the Bulldogs to a six-match win streak and have helped Wingate remain perfect in Conference play.
