Lenoir-Rhyne's Brown and Carson-Newman's Sangare Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne's Alexis Brown was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Carson-Newman's Kadidja Sangare was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the second week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.

Brown, a freshman sprinter from Austell, Ga., posted a pair of NCAA provisional times in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash at the Bast-Gregger Invitational. In addition to posting provisional times, Brown also broke two program records, winning the 60m in 7.35 seconds and winning the 200m in 24.85 seconds.  

Sangare, a freshman jumper from South Holland, Netherlands, placed first in the long jump and posted an NCAA provisional mark at the Bast-Cregger Invitational last week. She won the event with a leap of 5.68 meters. Sangare also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, winning the event with an NCAA provisional time of 9.03 seconds.
