Men's and Women's SAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship Wraps Up Day One
HICKORY, N.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Wingate University men's team and the Queens University women's outdoor track and field teams stand at the top of the leader board after day one of the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Track on Saturday, April 24. The only events with final results today were the men's and women's 3000 Meter Steeplechase, the men's and women's 10000 Meters and the men's and women's Hammer Throw and Javelin.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Queens' Jan Lukas Becker won it for the men in a time of 9:18.42, while fellow teammate Stevie Lawrence finished with a time of 10:46.86. As for team scores, on the men's side following Wingate is Queens and Anderson, while on the women's side, behind the Royals are the Bulldogs and Bears.
Wingate's Micah Kipchumba effortlessly won the men's 10000 meters with a time of 31:35.43, while Queens' Fatima Alanistook the lead in the last lap finishing the women's 10000 meters with a time of 36:13.37.
Junior Evans Wright of Queens University, won the men's hammer with a mark of 51.34m, while Limestone's Jade Johnsontossed a 50.03m mark in today's women's hammer.
Gudmundur Danielsson a senior from Queens threw a mark of 56.50m in the men's javelin, while teammate multi competiror Elise Ulseth had a mark of 43.67m in the women's javelin.
Additionally, after a day of inclement weather and safety concerns the women's pole vault will now be tomorrow at 4:00pm, the men's and women's long jumps will begin after 10:30am and the men's 110m HH will still be at 2:40pm with a possible two heat final.
The 2021 SAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will wrap-up on Sunday (Apr. 25) at the Irwin Belk Track.
