Lenoir-Rhyne's Dahlberg Named 2021 SAC Women's Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne's Kylie Dahlberg was voted the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Women's Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This will be the first time Dahlberg will have received this honor.

The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.

Dahlberg, a senior middle-distance runner from Flagler Beach, FL., has earned a 3.97 GPA while majoring in Biology. She has an impressive academic resume having made the President's list all four years, and the USTFCCCA Academic All-American team in her sophomore season. Dahlberg was also a part of the Chi Alpha Sigma Society as well as the Mortar Board Honors Society. In her Junior and senior year, she was Senior Honors Research Student, received the Yarborough Grant for research and participated in the North Carolina Academy of Science. 

"I can't think of a student athlete that deserves this award more than Kylie does. Her work ethic is the same in the classroom as it is on the track, on top of every accomplishment she's earned this season it's her leadership on this team that has made the biggest impact, she makes her teammates better on and off the track. I can't wait to see what the future will hold for Kylie," said Head Coach Kevin Paterson.

During Dahlberg's sophomore season she was named the Bears Comeback Player of the Year after sitting out with an injury her freshman year, she was named to the USTFCCCA All-Region Southeast team, placed first in the 800-meter at the SAC Championship, helped lead the entire team to a Conference Championship and was an All-Conference Honorable Mention for Cross Country. She made Second Team All-Conference her junior year only to follow up and Make First Team her senior year. Dahlberg was also crowned 2021 Conference champion in the 1500m event as well as being named SAC Track Athlete of the Week three times this year. 

Dahlberg has been a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the past two years, while also volunteering to work high school track meets. She has also been a Bears leadership Academy member for the past three years.
