The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the first week of the outdoor track & field season. Queens' Melanie Welsing earned the track honor and teammate Lucy Walliker earned the field honor.
Welsing, a senior from Richmond, Ky., took first place at the Charlotte 49ers Classic, recording a time of 13.82 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. Welsing is the defending national champion in the event. Her NCAA DII provisional time ranks first in the nation currently. This is Welsing's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season.
Walliker, a senior from Ugborough, England took first place in the heptathlon at the Charlotte 49ers Classic after totalling 4,482 points. Walliker also set a new school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.79 meters (5-10.5); ranking her first in the nation in the high jump currently. This is Walliker's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
