Six SAC Student-Athletes Advance to Saturday's Finals of the NCAA DII Track and Field Championships
EMPORIA, KS. -- The South Atlantic Conference saw six student-athletes advance to Saturday's finals and one earn All-America honors at day two of the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships hosted at Francis G. Welch Stadium.
The day started with Lenoir-Rhyne's Mackenzie Pringle competing in the triple jump. The junior would record a personal-best jump of 12.73m to earn fifth place and All-America status.
The mens 200m saw four from the SAC compete and two advance to Saturday's final. Catawba standout Miles Stephens cruised into the final with a qualifying time of 20.77, a personal best. Despite running the second-slowest time among the qualifiers, Carson-Newman's Rylan Jordan was second-fastest in his heat, securing his spot in his third final, 21.05 seconds. Meanwhile, Amine Kasmi finished third in his heat at 20.88 seconds but was bumped from the top eight due to the automatic qualifiers. Lenoir-Rhyne's Havyn Spain also failed to qualify for tomorrow's final but had an impressive time of 21.10.
Wingate's Klaus Scholz earned the final qualifying spot in the mens' 800m with a time of 1:48.71 while teammate Levente Palvolgyi failed to crack the top eight to advance.
In the women's 200m, Tusculum sprinters Qitarah Castlin and Jahzara Hart qualified for Saturday's final. Castlin crossed in 23.45, while Hart's time of 23.51 was good enough to advance. Teammate Kori Moore posted a time of 23.80 but didn't move on. However, Moore would advance in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best time of 13.46. Wingate's Dounia Routbi and Lenoir-Rhyne's Pringle also competed in the 100m hurdles but were unable to qualify.
Catawba's Eden Barnwell placed 19th in the women's 800m with a time of 2:11.31.
