Kate Griewisch Wins Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational for Second-Straight Year
NEWTON, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne's Kate Griewisch set a course record with an 18:13 en route to her second straight first-place finish at the L-R Invitational held Saturday morning at Southside Park.
Griewisch, a senior and two-time All-American from Banner Elk, N.C., was 63 seconds better than her nearest competitor (Milligan's Gillian Griffen) and helped the Bears finish second out of 10 teams.
Milligan placed three runners in the top five en route to the women's team title.
Senior Amanda Barnes (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished 12th with a 20:30 on the 5K course while sophomore Laura Rhyne (Taylorsville, N.C.) ran a 20:31 to place 13th overall for L-R.
On the men's side, Mars Hill won the event and had the top individual in Justin Gragg. Gragg ran a 26:09 over 8K to take home first-place honors.
Lenoir-Rhyne finished third out of eight schools and was led by sophomore Aaron Nelson (Mayodan, N.C.), who placed 11th with a 27:32.
Freshman Mike York (Kannapolis, N.C.) and senior Jakob Maidens (Lebanon, Va.) finished 12th and 13th with times of 27:34 and 27:43, respectively, for the Bears.
