Bears Down Bulldogs to Advance to Regional Final

ANDERSON, S.C. – For the second time in program history, Lenoir-Rhyne advanced to a Sweet 16 thanks to a win in the Regional Semifinal on Friday night. 

STATS OF THE MATCH:

  • The first set was back-and-forth before the Bulldogs took the upper hand. LR was up 15-13 before an extended run by Wingate gave them a 25-19 victory. The fourth-seeded Bulldogs scored 12 of the final 16 points in the set.
  • The roles reversed in the second set as Wingate stormed out to a 12-7 lead but the Bears came roaring back. A block by Taylor Prall put LR up 16-15 which would extend to 19-17.
  • However, Wingate would answer with a 3-0 spurt to regain a one-point advantage before Ashley Hawkins evened the set at 20 with her fifth kill of the game.
  • The Bulldogs would stave off set point to even it at 24 but a Prall kill and a Rachel Bewick ace gave LR a 26-24 win to even the match at 1.
  • LR started the third set on a 7-0 run to gain the early momentum. Wingate would rally and pull even at 18 and then grab a 19-18 lead.
  • Later in the set, Wingate would lead 22-21 but LR would end the set on a 4-0 run to grab the 2-1 advantage.
  • In the fifth set, LR jumped out to a 7-3 advantage but Wingate again mounted a comeback. The Bulldogs grabbed a 15-14 lead but a 6-0 LR run erased any hopes of a comeback.
  • Emma Clark closed out the match with a game-winning kill to send LR to a 25-20 fourth-set win.
